Saturday November 12, 2011 was the highly anticipated 2011 Design Exchange Gala. Spanning across three lavish purple-and-pink hued floors in the historic DX building, and welcoming over 800 guests, the event certainly didn’t disappoint those ready for a spectacle, and Eatertainment was proud to be apart of the cause.
Eatertainment was proud to be apart of this special fundraising event, as the successful three-course VIP dinner was exclusively catered by our team:
First Course
Cider Braised Beet –
with poached pear, whipped Benedictine blue, apple celery slaw, spicy candied pecan,
baby rocket and herbs, finished with a light raspberry vinaigrette
Main Course
Triple A Beef Tenderloin
with cherry-infused jus, sweet potato mousse, truffle risotto arancini cone
and a rainbow of geometric winter vegetables roasted in maple syrup
Dessert Trio
Orange Blossom Pannacotta with almond phyllo tuiles
Blackberry Sphere with tiny chocolate pop rocks and white chocolate
Lemon Macaron with dark chocolate ganache
While guests were enjoying their Eatertainment dinners, renowned Canadian designers Karim Rashid and his brother, Hani Rashid who co-founded Asymptote Architecture with Lise Anne Couture, were honored for their work advancing the world of design. All three honorees are prolific designers with work spanning across the globe and are continuously advancing the field of design.
During the after-party, performance artists hung from ceilings like a scene from Cirque du Soleil, while limber dancers in silver head-to-toe body suits danced around patrons, dangerously teetering on invading personal space. Luckily most attendees found these characters amusing and snapped pictures of them in-motion.
Ice sculptures throughout the third floor glistened in the hued lighting as chatter rose above the live band singing retro songs from Dirty Dancing and other great hits that had the entire crowd joyously singing in unison.
While it was certainly a lavish night, the Gala raised funds for budding designers, both present and future, through silent auctions in the main floor of the DX building which will ultimately continue the trend of aspiring designers in Canada. With items ranging from a variety of sponsors, attendees were able to bid on luxury goods and have their pockets open up to a great cause. The DX Gala is set up to support youth education programs like workshops, camps, as well as designers in the classroom and local competitions to aid in the present and future’s budding Canadian designers. With the likes of Tanya Kim from e-talk and Adriano Belli from the Argonauts in attendance to support the cause alongside our devoted Eatertainment staff, it was a successful night for the talented designers of Canada.
